Witnesses: Hunter accidentally shot child in Stone Co.

STONE COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A 10-year-old is in the hospital recovering from gunshot wounds sustained during a horseback ride. The shooting happened Sunday along the Big Foot Horse Trail in Stone County.

Investigators with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks were told the unidentified child was accidentally shot by a nearby deer hunter. But the wildlife spokesman wouldn't elaborate on specific details pertaining to this case. 

Deer hunting season opened on Saturday.
