ESCATAWPA, MS (WLOX) - Jackson County Coroner Vicky Broadus has identified the two people who died in a shipyard explosion Friday.  They are 25 year old Alex Caballero and 52 year old Dwight Monroe of Moss Point.  Both men were pronounced dead on the scene.
Four others were injured in the blast.
Two of them were treated at Singing River Hospital and released Friday night.  The other two are in University of South Alabama Medical Center's burn center.  Their names and conditions have not been released.
Authorities were on the scene Saturday trying to pinpoint what caused the explosion.  Company officials say they are cooperating with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration as they conduct their investigation.  VT Halter Marine is also conducting an investigation of its own.
CEO William Skinner released a statement Saturday.
"Obviously our heart goes out to all that were injured," Skinner said.  "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families.  We're working with the subcontract agencies as well as our company to assist the individuals who were injured through the process of that unfortunate experience here."
The employees involved were working in the hull of a tug boat at VT Halter Marine's Escatawpa facility on Trinity Drive near Roberts Road.  Skinner said they were preparing a compartment to be painted at the time of the explosion.  He said work has been stopped on that vessel until the investigation is complete.
