ESCATAWPA, MS (WLOX) - An explosion at VT Halter Marine in Escatawpa killed two people Friday afternoon, and injured at least four others.

Company CEO Bill Skinner told WLOX News that the crew was cleaning a tank, preparing it for paint when the blast occurred. It's still unclear what may have triggered the explosion.

Three of the victims were taken by ambulance to Singing River Hospital. One was in serious condition; the other two were in stable condition. One other victim who was flown to Mobile was in critical condition.

The explosion happened around 4pm Friday afternoon. By 6pm, there still weren't many answers.

"We do know that we have one fatality, and we have one that's presumed dead at this time. We're still trying to remove his body from the vessel," CEO Bill Skinner said. "Obviously, we are very saddened by the event today."
