GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Gulfport is in the market for a new fire chief. According to city council members, Pat Sullivan is retiring.

Sullivan was not at Tuesday's Gulfport City Council meeting when Mayor Schloegel announced the fire chief's decision. So, we called Chief Sullivan and asked him why he chose now to retire. But the chief declined our interview request, saying it wasn't the right time to talk about his decision.

Pat Sullivan has been with the city of Gulfport for 35 years. He became fire chief in 2001.
