8 suspects arrested in drug-related kidnapping for ransom

By WLOX Staff

JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - Wednesday, the Jackson Enforcement Team arrested eight suspects in a drug-related kidnapping for ransom, according to Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Director Marshall Fisher.

The agency leads the multi-agency task force that includes the Jackson Police Department, Hinds County Sheriff's Department and Mississippi Department of Corrections.

With the assistance of Metro One, JET officers arrested the suspects at a carwash at Robinson Road Extension and Raymond Road in Jackson, ending a three-hour investigation.

The eight people facing kidnapping, extortion and aggravated assault charges are:

  • William Dinkins, 23, of Byram
  • Robert Tremayne Hurst, 18, of Jackson
  • Justin Hurst, 20, of Jackson
  • Dwan Diondro Wakefield, 33, of Jackson
  • Donterrian D. Wilson, 17, of Taylorsville
  • Louis Donquese Strahan, 32, of Jackson
  • Justin Demond Haynes, 19, of Jackson
  • Donald Thompson, 53, of Jackson

"Today, while conducting a narcotics investigation, JET agents received information alleging that a 17-year-old male had been kidnapped and was being held for ransom," Director Fisher said. "The mother of the victim was contacted by the suspects and overheard her son being beaten and begging for help. The suspects attempted to extort money from the mother in exchange for her son's safe release."

"After a brief investigation, agents were able to locate and rescue the victim, who had been severely beaten. The kidnap victim was admitted into a local hospital with multiple injuries," Fisher said.

The suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Hinds County Detention Center.
