Saints Assistant Coach Leaves For Oregon State

(Corvallis, Oregon-AP) -- Mike Riley is back as Oregon State's head football coach. Riley rejoins the Beavers just four years after leaving the school to become the San Diego Chargers' head

The school says Riley contacted athletic director Bob De Carolis the day it was announced that Dennis Erickson was leaving the Beavers to become head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. Riley was among several candidates interviewed for the job.

The Corvallis native was 8-and-14 in two seasons at O-S-U. He was fired by the Chargers are winning just 14 of 48 games in three seasons.

Riley spent last year as an assistant with the New Orleans Saints.
