Shopping frenzy underway for Halloween wear

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Enter if you dare and don't let the crowd scare you. Undecided shoppers have been roaming the aisles all day Friday at Josette's in Biloxi.

"It's cute. Every day at 5:00 the phone starts and it's all male," store owner Josette Locklar said. "They ask 'What time do you close?' because they've waited until the last minute."

"I don't know where to start," Brian Holifield said as he looked around the store.

The Vancleave man needed a costume for a Friday night function.

When asked why he waited so late, Holifield responded, "Didn't have a party to go to.  Now I have one to go to, so last minute shopping.  Here I am."

It was pretty obvious that Halloween isn't just for the little ones anymore.

"This is the only adult holiday on the calendar, if you think about it," Locklar said.

And the costumes and accessory choices are endless, from rentals to pre-packaged items.  The look can be ghoulish or garish and daring.

"Short, brief, sexy, pretty," said Locklar.  "The skimpier the better, yes. The gross, the scary, the unusual, that's for the fellas."

Robin Hunt's costume seemed rather interesting.  He's buying what looked like women's under garments.

"These are the 2X extra large ruffles for my bee costume," said Hunt.  "I thought the tights might be too revealing."

"He was going to wear shorts over it. I said, 'No way,'" his wife Nancy told us.  "That's why he's here shopping for ruffle butts."

Dressing-up is just part of the Halloween spirit.

"This is Elvis," one man said as he put on a chubby outfit of the King.

And once you find that perfect look, it's time to party.

"They go out and have a good time and they come back and tell us they won first prize," Locklar said.  "They're happy and we're happy."

Believe it or not, special orders for Halloween costumes actually start at the end of August. Josette's will be open on Halloween Day from 10am until 5pm.
