GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Gulfport Police arrested 32-year-old Melvin Dewayne Keys of Gulfport and charged him with one count of motor vehicle theft on Monday. This arrest stems from the Police department's "Operation Bait Car" program.
Keys entered the vehicle, shortly thereafter it was deactivated as it was designed to do, and Keys was arrested without incident near the intersection of 24th Avenue and 22nd Street.
Keys was incarcerated at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center in lieu of a $25,000 bond set by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Melvin Ray.
"We will aggressively combat motor vehicle thefts with the use of the Bait Car," Chief Alan Weatherford said. "You never know where it may be deployed. Take the bait; get busted."
