BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - It was an exciting day at Beauvoir Tuesday as officials finally signed a contract to build a new Jefferson Davis Presidential Library and Museum.
Beauvoir's Director Rick Forte said it's been a long process.
"We've worked for four years and now we have a deal," Forte said.
J.C. Dukes Construction Company out of Mobile, Alabama won the $10.4 million contract.
"They say they will begin work immediately," Forte said.
The old library was demolished after being heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. FEMA will provide 90 percent of the money for the project.
"We expect the new library and museum to be completed by mid-2011," Forte said.
Winning FEMA approval was a task because Beauvoir's plans had to meet strict guidelines to receive funding from the federal government.
