College degrees mean more jobs for Mississippi

JACKSON, MS (AP) - Members of a new legislative task force say increasing the number of college graduates in Mississippi will help bring more quality jobs to the state. Statistics presented to the Graduation Rate Task Force this week show a large number of students are dropping out of the state's colleges and universities without earning a degree.

The percentage of the state population with degrees is smaller than the national and Southeastern averages. Mississippi Economic Council President Blake Wilson, a task force member, told the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal that an uneducated work force won't attract jobs that can move the state forward.
