Janus to resign from MS Legislature Monday morning

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Governor Haley Barbour will have to call a special election to decide who will finish out the unexpired term of a coast lawmaker.

Representative Michael Janus told WLOX News he plans to resign from the Mississippi legislature at exactly 7:59am Monday morning. He will then begin his new job as D'Iberville City manager at 8am.

Janus, who represents District 117, said state law prohibits him from holding both positions at the same time.

District 117 includes about 25,000 people living in West Biloxi and East Gulfport. Janus said he has about two years left in his term.
