HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Westbound Interstate 10 in Hancock County will close Friday evening at 6:30pm so that a storage tank can be moved to Stennis Space Center.
The tank was scheduled to be moved earlier in the day, but was delayed. It didn't reach the interstate crossover until 3:25 Friday afternoon. The Mississippi Highway Patrol asked that the transport be delayed until at least 6:30pm when traffic is typically lighter.
The Highway Patrol will close I-10's westbound lanes between exits 2 and 13 for about 45 minutes. The tanks are coming from Port Bienville and are too large to fit under the highway overpass. So instead, it will move east using the westbound lanes of I-10. That's the same route the tanks have been taking all week.
