PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - The rainy weather has put a damper on the opening weekend of oyster season in Mississippi. It was quiet this morning along the docks at the Pass Christian harbor.
That's normally the spot where oyster fishermen would be unloading their harvest.
Despite the soggy slowdown Saturday, the Department of Marine Resources says Friday was a busy opening day of the season.
The DMR says 65 boats checked out Friday morning and harvested more than 1,100 sacks of oysters.
St. Joe's Reef, south of Hancock County, was the only site open to oyster fishermen. Oyster season continues through April.
