JACKSON, MS (AP) - State health officials are reporting a third swine flu death in Mississippi. The latest swine flu death was in Washington County - the first outside the Gulf Coast.
The other deaths were in Hancock and Jackson counties. Mississippi Department of Health spokeswoman Liz Sharlot said the victim was an adult woman. Mississippi has had 723 confirmed cases of Novel H1N1 swine flu.
Federal officials say that there have been 9,079 hospitalizations and 593 deaths nationally. Health officials say swine flu vaccine will be available in mid-October.
Officials say priority groups for the flu - children, young adults, and those with chronic diseases pregnant women - will be targeted for the vaccinations.
