Pascagoula River Audubon Center competes for Disney prize

By WLOX Staff

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The Pascagoula River Audubon Center has a chance to win a $100,000 prize, but it needs your help.

The center can win a water resources grant from Disney's Friends for Change campaign. The center is one of only three Audubon Nature Centers in the nation up for the grant.

The Pascagoula River Audubon Center will use the money to create rainwater gardens and roof systems at schools throughout South Mississippi.

Voting begins Friday, September 11th and goes through Thursday, September 17th. Here's how you can help:

  1. Log on to http://www.audubon.org/educate/kids/raingers.html. This will give you the initial concept of the program and you will see a link to the Disney site.
  2. Register on the Disney site, or log in if you already have an account on the Disney web page. (Its free to sign up.)
  3. Make a pledge for "water." And follow through with your pledge (turn off the water when you brush your teeth, take shorter showers, etc...)
  4. When the count down ends, cast your vote for "Audubon RAINgers"
