WIGGINS, MS (WLOX) - Before now, women in Stone County facing unexpected pregnancy had to travel nearly 30 miles to get the help they needed. Now, there's a place closer to home that offers prenatal classes, peer counseling, adoption resources and free pregnancy tests.

"We wanted something in our community where they feel safe and comfortable to come to," Terri Jennings said.

Mississippi has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the country. So the Pregnancy Resource Center could not have come soon enough. But, the focus isn't just on women, the center also offers a ministry and counseling for men.

"We definitely want to get the father of the baby involved and even maybe the parents or grandparents," Jennings said.

Though the focus is often on teen moms when it comes to pregnancy, the resource center hopes to reach all women, regardless of their age or situation.

"The factory I was working in closed. The men there had families and expectant wives, so we want to be there for everybody," Jennings said.

Women who attend classes can also earn rewards called Mommy Money. The center has a boutique full of baby clothes, diapers and toys mothers can buy with the money.

The center is still in need of volunteers. It's located at 313 East Bond Avenue in Wiggins.  It's open Tuesday and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.  You can call the center at (601) 928-9411.
