License kiosks promise quicker renewal

In the past we have been critical of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety and how it runs the license bureaus across our state. Most Mississippians can tell you about the long lines they've endured to renew their driver's licenses. In fact it, was not uncommon for some residents to get to the license bureau and stand in line for a long period of time only to find out that they had to come back another day.

Recently there have been improvements at many of these license bureaus and people have told us its better. Now we are excited to hear from Public Safety Commissioner Steve Simpson that there will be kiosks set up around the state where you can renew your drivers license. Simpson says Mississippi will be the first state in the country to offer these ATM like renewal machines.

Also we are glad they will be placed in convenient locations like malls, courthouses, and student unions. No doubt this is a good step forward in solving a problem that has cost Mississippians thousands of wasted hours waiting.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
