Ole Miss And Southern Miss Crack A-P Poll With High Goals In 2000

The Ole Miss Rebels could have the most explosive offense in the Southeastern Conference thanks to a host of talented players led by running back Deuce McAllister and quarterback Romaro Miller. Those players helped Ole Miss pickup a number 18 ranking in the Associated Press preseason football poll. Throw-in the Rebels other running back Joe Gunn and you can see why Ole Miss is fully loaded taking aim on the opposition.

The backbone of the offense remains Heisman Trophy candidate Deuce McAllister. If the Rebels defense comes around, look out. Head coach David Cutcliffe says, "Upfront on defense we lost a third round draft choice at defensive tackle and three other young men who played in the defensive line. So certainly we're going to have to play some younger players. We have some Seniors, Derrick Burgess, one of our captains and Shane Elam another captain who will have to step-up and have tremendous years. Eddie Strong has been moved to inside Mike Linebacker and it's certainly going to be a challenge."

Ole Miss kicksoff the 2000 season September 2nd hosting the Tulane Green Wave in Oxford.
