D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - South Mississippi is hosting one of the nation's most prestigious saltwater fishing tournaments this weekend.

The 2009 Redfish Cup kicked off Friday morning in D'Iberville. More than 100 anglers are competing for a grand prize of $40,000 and a spot in the tournament championship next month.

This is the second year for the tournament to come to South Mississippi, and it brings some much-needed business with it.

"A lot of people are realizing that fishing is an industry, not just a luxury. It's a huge economic impact," Redfish Cup Director Bob Sealy said. "We've had guys that stay here for three weeks prior to the tournament starting, so they spend a lot of money in lodging meals, gas."

South Mississippi will also get national attention when the tournament is televised on ESPN2 later this fall.

The final weigh in for teams will be Sunday at 3pm, under the I-110 in D'Iberville.
