BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Keesler Air Force Base is honoring a man who dedicated 32 years of service to the military, and to south Mississippi. Friday morning, a new aircraft maintenance facility building was dedicated in honor of the late Col. Lawrence Roberts.

Col. Roberts' son and daughters were on hand for the ceremony. Their father started his long military career at Keesler in 1943, a year before becoming a pilot with the Tuskegee Airmen

"My father loved three things," Sally-Ann Roberts Nabonne remembered. "He loved his country, he loved his family, and he loved all mighty God. And through his service in the military in the U.S. Air Force, he was able to serve each joyously and passionately."

Col. Roberts passed away in 2004.

The new Roberts Consolidated Maintenance Facility will provide support and maintenance to Keesler's 403rd Wing.

Col. Roberts is also the father of Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts. Robin and her mother, Lucimarianne, couldn't be at Friday's ceremony.
