LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) - For now, it sits as a run-down RV park in Long Beach, but soon Plantation Pines will become a community of Mississippi cottage homes for seniors. It's just one of the affordable housing developments, TSA Group LLC., a group of developers out of Florida, is bringing to the coast.
"We are an affordable housing developer that actually addresses every single point that [potential homeowners] have to cover," CEO Janet Bryant said.
The group helps buyers secure loans and takes them through credit and home-buying classes. In Long Beach, residents will pay around $79,000 to live in the new cottage community. But, CEO Janet Bryant said the group will work with residents, and that those that make 40 percent of the area median income and are least 55 are welcome to move in.
"That's the market that falls through the crack. That's the market that no one else wants to address," Bryant said.
The other development will be in Gulfport. It will have 231 single family homes. In the new Piper Woods subdivision off Orange Grove Road, 72 units will be built. At the new Hatten Farms subdivision off North Swan Road, 159 will go up. Construction on the subdivisions and the cottage park are expected to start in the next 30 days. They should wrap up by March of 2012.
At the Gulfport sites, Bryant said buyers can receive $40,000 in grant money toward the cost of their lot. For both properties, especially the Plantation, the group is expecting high demand.
"We expect a one-year market time and it'll be a fast sell-out," Bryant said.
