OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - The Walter Anderson Museum of Art in Ocean Springs invited artists from around the Gulf South to be part of a unique project. The challenge was to pick a piece of Walter Anderson art, reflect on it and then produce a creation inspired by the piece.
"I wanted them to think out of the box and come up with their own thing," Museum Exhibitions Director Doug Myatt said.
Among the 39 artists accepting the challenge was Walter Anderson's grandson Christopher Stebly. He's already enjoyed a lifetime of inspiration from his grandfather.
"I grew up around and I'm so lucky to have been a part of it," Stebly said.
Christopher picked one of his grandfather's ceramic pieces and painted a watercolor inspired by the Anderson original. The artists were all honored to be part of the experience.
"My grandfather is an icon," Stebly said.
The exhibition titled "Coastal Artists Reflect on Walter Inglis Anderson" will be on display at the museum through October 18th.
