Brewing beer south Mississippi style

KILN, MS (WLOX) - In 2003, Brewmaster Leslie Henderson and her husband, Mark, founded Lazy Magnolia Brewery in Hancock County. Her first batch of handcrafted beer hit the market in 2005.

"I always wanted to start a business in south Mississippi and Lazy Magnolia has been a thrill," Leslie Henderson said.

Lazy Magnolia makes five different beers. Its trademark recipe is a brand called Southern Pecan. The south Mississippi brew is now available in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida and Tennessee.

"We're taking over the southeast one state at a time," Henderson joked.

Leslie's game plan is to ship her beer all around America.

Lazy Magnolia started bottling beer at its plant in the Kiln in 2007. This move changed the business model.

"We were only in bars and restaurants, now we're in six packs and cases," Henderson said.

Lazy Magnolia turns out 9,000 cases of beer a month and is making a name for itself in the world of micro-breweries.
