VA Gulf Coast welcomes new director

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - There's someone new overseeing the healthcare of Gulf Coast veterans. Thomas Wisnieski is the new director for the VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System. He previously held the position of acting director at the VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC.

The VA Gulf Coast is made up of medical facilities in Biloxi; Mobile, AL; Pensacola, FL; Eglin AFB, FL; and Panama City, FL.

Kathleen Fogarty, who served as interim director for the VA Gulf Coast since January, will return to Fayetteville, AR as the director of Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks.

"I look forward to serving our nation's veterans here on the Gulf Coast," Wisnieski said. "The VA Gulf Coast has experienced incredible growth within its clinics, and I'm excited about the system's future."

Wisnieski's VA career started in 1982, and has included leadership positions in New York, Louisiana and South Carolina.
