Minds converge in Moss Point

MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - They come from different community groups around Moss Point.  Their organizations' missions are different, but their main goal is the same. They want to enrich the city of Moss Point.

Representatives from local organizations, along with individual citizens, joined forces at the In Thompson Moss Point Library Saturday afternoon. Library Manager Gabriel Giovannitti organized the event. He originally planned the event to become more acquainted with the community groups in the area. What he discovered, is the meeting could take on a bigger purpose.

"A lot of people are doing things to improve the community, but they're doing it in little groups," Giovannitti said. "If people can actually pool their abilities and their resources, then larger things can happen."

Participating groups included the Mississippi Department of Rehab, Moss Point Main Street Association, Moss Point Kiwanis, Jackson County Historical and Geneological Society, the Civil Air Patrol, Get Healthy Moss Point, the Moss Point School District, and the Ina Thompson Moss Point Library.

Representatives and individual citizens exchanged ideas, hoping to form a strong positive influence in their city.

"This is where I live, and I just try to make a difference in the community," resident Alfredia Seals said.

"I think the people in the community of Moss Point needs to start to realize what a dynamic city that they live in," said Monica Cooper-Battle of the Moss Point Main Street Association.  "And the opportunities that we have."

They hope the network will energize citizens and bring the city toward a new tomorrow.

"Its just a perfect opportunity for everything to come together," Cooper-Battle said.
