BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - A Biloxi man was found shot to death Friday morning inside his apartment at the Lexington Apartments off Big Lake Road. Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said a gunshot wound to the head killed 38-year-old Xavier Seals.
"I'm still in shock that this really happened," Brittany Mareno said.
Mareno lived directly above Seals. She says he was warm and outgoing and played with her young daughter from time to time.
"He was a great guy. He took care of himself and pretty much anybody else he could. He was friendly, crazy, outgoing, saying whatever, but he was a great guy."
Police say a friend found Seals' body shortly before 5am Friday. Kristal Acevedo lives across the street from Seals. She says it was shortly before 5 when she heard loud screams outside her apartment.
Acevedo said, "It was probably 4:40 in the morning, and I just heard someone screaming, 'Why? Why did you do this?'"
Mareno said the timing of Seals' death was even more surreal because he had just taken his life in a new direction.
"He just got saved. On his living room table, he has a certificate where he was baptized. He was trying to do right, so it's really unfortunate," Mareno said.
Though still early in the investigation, police say robbery could have been a possible reason why Seals was killed. They say it doesn't appear to be random and was likely someone he knew. One of the people in question could be related to Seals.
