HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A suspected serial rapist under arrest after being beaten by two people who fear they were about to become his latest victims.

Harrison County Sheriff Melvin Brisolara told WLOX News that Vincent Gerald Goff, 37, was arrested Thursday afternoon, not long after he kidnapped a man and woman and tried to sexually assault them.

The sheriff said Goff is also a suspect in at least three other rapes in Harrison County over the past three years. He may also be responsible for similar attacks in other areas.

Officials received a report Thursday afternoon from a man and woman. They said they were kidnapped by a man wearing a mask and carrying a rifle in the area of Forest Road, off of South Carbridge.

The victims said Goff forced them out of their car and into the woods where he then tried to assault them. Sheriff Brisolara said the man wrestled the rifle away from Goff, and began beating him with it.

Investigators say Goff got away in a car, they believe, was hidden in the woods. But deputies soon caught up with him near his home off Lamey Bridge Road in D'Iberville.

Thursday evening, Goff was still in the hospital. He's charged with two counts each of kidnapping, aggravated assault and attempted sexual battery. Sheriff's investigators are busy checking with other law enforcement agencies with similar unsolved attacks.
