BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - "The worst of the recession may be over for the Mississippi Gulf Coast, but many challenges remain."
That's what the Gulf Coast Business Council's second quarter report says about our local economy. The report was released Wednesday.
The CEO & Business Owner's Confidence Survey found unemployment levels in South Mississippi actually stabilized in the second quarter compared to June of last year. About 3,610 jobs were lost, with retail and leisure jobs being hit hardest.
The report found six of the 11 coast cities actually made more in sales tax revenue this quarter, than before Katrina. It also projects the employment picture to remain stable going into the third quarter of 2009.
