JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - New computer technology is helping Mississippi law enforcers crack down on child pornography.

The Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit of the Attorney General's Office spearheaded a recent investigation that led to the arrest of a Hattiesburg man. Branden Howard Henley, 20, was arrested Monday and charged with "knowingly, intelligently and illegally having images in his possession of children under the age of 18 in sexually explicit poses."

"This defendant is accused of possessing the images via the Internet through a file sharing program," said Attorney General Jim Hood. "We finally have software that enables us to see who is downloading child porn in this state."

Possession of child pornography is a felony offense with a penalty of five to 40 years in the state penitentiary and, upon conviction, is a lifetime registerable sex offense.

The Attorney General's office said more details about Mississippi's efforts to combat child pornography will be unveiled in coming weeks.

Full-time Waveland city workers, primarily police officers, who take-home vehicles outside of the city limits could see a change to the city's policy soon. City leaders said the current policy is antiquated and needs to be rewritten into something that would benefit both the officers and the taxpayers.
