A seven-month drug investigation in Picayune has netted 58 arrests, authorities said. Most of those arrested Thursday were charged with sale of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a church or school, police said.
Investigators reported that most of suspects were accused of selling prescription drugs such as OxyContin and Xanax. Other drugs sold to undercover officers included marijuana, crack cocaine and methamphetamine.
Police also seized three vehicles during the operation. Officials said many of those arrested bonded out by Thursday afternoon.
"Operation Clean Sweep'' was a joint investigation handled by Picayune police, the Mississippi Department of Corrections and the sheriffs departments in Hancock and Pearl River counties.
