HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A wildfire in Hancock County caused one lane of Highway 603 to be shut down around 2:30 Saturday afternoon. County forestry officials say visibility is still poor around I-10 headed west and Highway 603.
They still aren't sure how the fire started in the area but say about 300 to 500 acres have been burned. It took about 3 hours to get it under control.
Buddy Cuevas, a county forestry technician, says the lack of rainfall means people should not burn right now.
Because of possible fog and lingering smoke, visibility could still be very poor overnight and in the morning. Officials are urging motorists to be very careful while in that area.
