Investment money flowing again

To hear somebody say his company has "confidence in the market" sure was encouraging. The comment came from Palace Casino general manager Keith Crosby. He expressed his confidence while outlining the Palace's expansion plans.

It's the kind of news that economic development officials should be celebrating. Put it on Facebook. Tweet your friends on twitter. The investment money is flowing again. Y'all need to come back to the coast.

And if you come, why not fly here. You see, other casinos have invested in airline seats. And that's making it a lot easier for tourists to get here. IP and the Grand have become partners in flights on Southern Skyways and Continental. Those jets fly to Atlanta, Jacksonville and Tampa. Beau Rivage is working with Allegiant Air on similar air service. Make sure you bring your sticks. You see, Island View has tee times for you at Windance. The casino acquired the golf course after Katrina to give the resort another amenity.

Here's the point. It took some time, almost four years, but the casinos are reinvesting in their properties. We're still not seeing the new hotels, or the projects like Margaritaville get the funding they need. However, what we are seeing are strategic investments that enhance properties, and create a few more jobs. As one G.M. said to us this week, those investments express confidence that once the recession is over, we'll all by okay in this market.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
