D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - A Gautier teen died Wednesday afternoon while swimming in the Tchoutacabouffa River in an area known as "the cliff."

Just before 2pm, Christopher Galloway, 19, was swimming with friends in the river when he got into some sort of distress.

"The victim's girlfriend, then some other friends attempted to swim over.  The victim was the last person in the water," D'Iberville Police Captain Keith Davis said.

Friends swam back to him, but it was too late.

"His friends went to attempt to give him aid and when they did he was pulled under."

His body disappeared in the murky water off Riverside Drive. An hour later, divers from the D'Iberville Fire Department found the teen and removed his body from the river.

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said an autopsy on Galloway will be finished Thursday. He likely died from drowning.
