Thieves strike Harrison County fireworks business

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -  "They took three 500 gram cakes," said Any Mosely as he pointed to his limited supplies and empty spots on the shelves.

"This is where all our bottle rockets were," he said. "We had Black Cat bottle rockets, whistlers and moon travelers."

They are all gone. Sometime overnight Friday, thieves broke into his small fireworks business at the corner of Highway 15 and Lamey Bridge Road in Harrison County.

"Very disappointing to come in and see more than half my stock gone," Mosely said.

Mosely and his wife believe the thieves used a crowbar to pull the lock from the door.

"I was in shock," said Sabrina Mosely. "I mean, we're a small business, just trying to provide fireworks for everybody. And the fact that someone would come in and do this makes you feel invaded."

The Moselys say the stolen fireworks are valued at around $6,000. That's a big hit, especially because this is the couple's first year running a fireworks stand.

"Every little bit, of course, hurts, but it's quite a bit to lose at one time," said Sabrina Mosely.

The Moselys say the thieves went through a lot of trouble carrying out the large assortment packages and firecrackers because some of the items weighed more than 30 pounds.  However, the couple won't let this crime, drive them out of business.

"Yeah, I am surprised, but then things like this do happen," Sabrina Mosely said. "But you know, it's not going to deter us. We're going to come back, and we'll be here hopefully in the same location for the Christmas, New Year's time, as well as the next 4th of July."

The Moselys say in the future, they will improve security and have someone watch the business overnight. Harrison County investigators say they have no suspects at this time, and they are still investigating.
