OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX)- Some Jackson County residents are carrying on a little girl's legacy.

A young girl, who had cancer started Alex's lemonade stand. Alex reportedly set up a lemonade stand every year to raise money for children's cancer research, until she died from the disease.  Now children and parents across the country are taking up her cause.  That includes three Jackson County families, who found out about the program through an online school, K-12.

"We're going to at least try to come once a year," said Dianna Hill who helped organize the stand. "We thought 4th of July. What a great way to spend our 4th of July doing something good and giving back.

Despite the rain, the group raised almost $1,000 Saturday.
