BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Thousands of visitors and locals will spend time on the beach this holiday weekend.
Beach visitors can be found building sand castles, finding hermit crabs and riding watercraft.
It's a star spangled, sun-drenched weekend along the waterfront.
The Fourth of July weekend means packing the kids and coolers and inflatable water toys and heading for the beach.
"We came down here for the Fourth weekend. And we're enjoying ourselves," said Jennifer Cecil of suburban Houston.
Carson and Callie are visiting from Texas. Like so many others, it's all about fun in the sun and the sand and the surf?
"Well, the sand is really nice. We're missing some surf. It's a lot different than Galveston. We have waves in Galveston," Cecil admitted.
While some bigger kids play on watercraft, building sand castles is still the big beach attraction for the younger crowd.
Dig around the beach you never know what you'll find.
"I have a hermit crab," yelled one excited youngster.
"I've got a box you can put it in," her equally excited friend replied.
This kickoff-the-weekend crowd has beach vendors smiling. Independence Day brings tourist dollars.
"Very good. Very good. Very optimistic about it. It's starting out good. Started out real good yesterday and today. Nice and warm and sunny," said vendor Raleigh Carter.
In other words, perfect beach weather. A visiting family from Humbolt, Tennessee is impressed.
"Just the sand and the sun and the chance to meet and see new people," said Tiara Champion.
"I love it. I love the beach. It's amazing. It's my first time here. So, I'm excited," added her sister Myya, "I'm having fun chasing after fish, making my first sand castle. It's amazing."
It is an amazing start to this holiday weekend.
Plenty of sun, sand and Fourth of July family fun.
