BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Department of Marine Resources just announced that Shrimp Season will begin next Thursday, June 25, in Mississippi. That means all waters south of the Intracoastal Waterway will be open to shrimpers.
Shrimp season usually begins in early to mid-June. The average catch must reach 68 shrimp per pound before the season can begin. A DMR spokesperson told WLOX News last week that heavy rains in March and April may have affected the growth of the shrimp, which delayed the opening of the season just a bit.
