WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) - In the 1930s, a young man named T.F. Monti from Waveland starting building models. Model planes, ships, automobiles, you name it.
Today, Monti has more than 4,000 models on display in what he calls "War and Peace: The T.F. Monti Private Model Collection."
"When I started, I had no idea it would turn into this," Monti said.
Mr. Monti is 93-years-old and still constructs models. Over the years, many have been lost or broken. Hurricane Katrina nearly destroyed the collection, but his family saved the models and put them into storage.
Earlier this year, his family secretly starting building shelves and turned a vacant building into a museum of sorts to display the models.
"He did not know what we were doing. When we showed him the building, he started crying," said Monti's son, Joe.
"I was tickled pink," T.F. Monti said.
