Crash takes out tobacco shop's window

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A truck crashed into a Gulfport tobacco shop Thursday morning, causing quite a scare for employees and customers. The accident happened around 10:45am at the Tobacco & Beer Discount House on Pass Road.

Police say it started when a GMC truck driven by Percy McKay hit another car at Pass and Gulf Avenue. McKay's GMC then rammed two other trucks that were parked in front of the tobacco store, pushing one of the trucks into the building.

The crash shattered the store window, smashed some bricks, and knocked over shelves.

"I was inside working, waiting on some customers, and I heard three loud booms. And I thought it was gunshots, so I started ducking and running. And by the time I heard the last boom, that's when the truck came inside the store," store clerk Tazamisha Lee said.

"I was just real nervous and real scared because I really didn't know what was happening, until I actually looked behind me and saw the truck inside the store."

Police said no one was seriously hurt. McKay was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way.

Workers had to close the store for several hours while they cleaned-up the mess.
