FCC offers free help with converter box installation

By WLOX Staff

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Federal Communication Commission is offering free help to anyone making the switch to digital TV.

WLOX and other full-power TV stations will end their analog broadcast signals on June 12, 2009. That means viewers not subscribed to cable or satellite must have a digital converter box installed to receive free, over the air television signals.

To make that transition easier, the FCC has contracted with vendors to provide DTV installation assistance for consumers in need. This is a free service, but you must purchase the converter box on your own.

Three such contractors in the WLOX viewing area are:

R&D Training & Technical Services - 1-866-202-4596

Installs, Inc. - 1-800-582-4250 or fill out a service request at dtvhelp.installs.com.

If you already have a converter box, you can access the manual information online. Click here to see a list of converter box manuals, and other important set up information.
