DIAMONDHEAD, MS (WLOX) - This weekend people across the country are beginning their Memorial Day tributes. In Diamondhead, people paid tribute to the South Mississippi men and women who served on the front lines.

"Each death in combat is a tragedy. It extends to the family of the fallen. The heartbreaking loss of a son, of a daughter, a spouse, a sibling, a parent, a friend," said Cpt. Jim Berdeguez.

Cpt. Berdeguez was the featured guest at the 9th Annual Veterans Memorial Service in Diamondhead.

"Let us remember not only those who have fallen in combat, but all those who have supported those who chose to don this uniform, these uniforms of our nation," Cpt. Berdeguez said.

The service offered a prayer of peace to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the good of our nation.

"These self-less warriors have stepped forward to protect our nation they love, fight for America's highest ideals and show people that the future of liberty is possible" said Cpt. Berdeguez.
