HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The old Highway 90 detour that Pearlington residents have endured for months is about to come to an end. Construction work on the Whites and Cowand Bayou Bridges has been completed.
The roadway will officially open to the public on Tuesday, but MDOT leaders say they hope to allow traffic on the road even sooner than that.
The wood pilings on the 70 year old bridges were replaced with concrete pilings and the bridges were raised five feet to better handle flood waters. The $8 million project took about seven months to complete.
