JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - Tuesday, the Mississippi State Department of Health confirmed another case of H1N1 Swine Flu. The fifth case is a young adult male in Harrison County who has fully recovered.
Since last week, there have been a total of four cases reported in Harrison County and one in Forrest County.
"We are continuing our increased surveillance throughout the state," said State Epidemiologist Dr. Mary Currier. "We are keeping our ear to the ground in the coastal area; we do realize this is an area with a lot of travel. Everyone should continue to take the same basic precautions of good hand-washing hygiene, coughing or sneezing into your sleeve and staying home if you are sick."
According to Dr. Currier, H1N1 Swine Flu responds well to traditional anti-viral medications. The very young, the elderly, pregnant women and the chronically ill may be at higher risk.
The MSDH has activated a Swine Flu Hotline seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 1-877-222-9FLU (1-877-222-9358).
