OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - All four people rescued from the Mississippi Sound Monday afternoon are in good condition at Gulfport Memorial Hospital. Meanwhile, the search continues for their friend, Ocean Springs police officer Stephen Bond.
"We are not giving up," Ocean Springs Deputy Chief Mark Dunston said about the search.
Rescue teams from the Coast Guard, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, the Department of Marine Resources and various police departments have all been taking part in the search. Fellow officers Michael Green and Jonathan Navas, along with his wife Whitney Navas and Green's girlfriend Becky Welch were all found in the water northwest of Ship Island.
The Coast Guard released video Tuesday showing their rescue of Whitney Navas. (Click here to view the video.) You can see just how small the people in the water appear from the helicopter, and what a difficult job the search teams have.
"All four survivors that were taken out of the water had on life jackets," Lt. Steve Futral said. "I am not sure whether or not Bond had on a life jacket."
Ocean Springs Police pledge to keep searching. Deputy Chief Mark Dunston said he will not rest until his officer is found.
"If you know Officer Stephen Bond, you know he's very smart and a very strong individual, both mentally and physically." Dunston said. "It was a very intensive search and it still is."
