Perkinston-- Long-time Bulldogs coach Cooper Farris notified Mississippi Gulf Coast school officials Tuesday night that he was retiring.

He replaced his father Boo Farris as the Bulldogs head baseball coach in 1990.

Before announcing his retirement, Farris met with school officials including Athletic Director Ladd Taylor for his his annual evaluation.

Cooper guided his 2009 Bulldogs to 32 wins and 17 losses.  He leaves with 698 victories, 376 losses and one tie. Farris guided his Bulldogs to 14 South Division titles, 2 State Championship titles and 2 Region 23 Championships.

Athletic Director Ladd Taylor told WLOX that a job description for the new head baseball coach is being devised by the Human Resources Department and once that is completed the school will advertise the job.

Taylor says a hiring committee will be formed and all applicants will be reviewed.  He did say he wants Bulldogs assistant coach Gary Rath to return next season.
