Four Charities Team Up To Help Coast Community

Several area charities have found that working as a team makes them stronger. On Monday several graduates of the Home of Grace in Vancleave got in some practice laps for Saturday's Mercy Run. The drug treatment center is sponsoring the 5-K race along with the Salvation Army, Catholic Social Services, and the Mercy Ship. Organizers say the motto "Coming Together For Those in Need" expresses the sentiment behind the event.

Home of Grace director Bill Barton said "We want to all provide information about our services and what services we offer of course, but we also want them to know that we are working together to try to make this community better and to try to help people in need in this community and I just think it's a wonderful opportunity for us to do that."

The Mercy Run takes place at 9 o'clock Saturday morning at Rice Pavilion in Gulfport. Along with the 5-k race, there will also be a one mile fun run, and races for children and the disabled. If you participate in the Mercy Run you can register an hour before the race starts.
