LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) - A woods fire in Long Beach has burned approximately 55 acres. Roger Woods with the Mississippi Forestry Commission said they think it may have been a campfire from last night. They also think it started on the north end of Turner Road near 28th Street in Long Beach.

Fire crews were working to contain the fire Saturday evening. As of 8:15pm, officials say the fire has been 100% contained.

No homes were threatened. The fire was between the Long Beach and Canal Road exits between I-10 and 28th Street.

The interstate was not shut down, but smoke was visible from and on I-10. Drivers are being advised to be very careful driving through that area as the visibility will be limited, and the fire will continue smoking and smoldering through the night.
