OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - A state trooper is being hailed a hero after stopping a suspected bank robber in his tracks.

Around 3:30 Friday afternoon, Ocean Springs Police say a man walked into the Bank Plus branch on Highway 90 and tried to rob it. A state trooper was in the bank on personal business. According to police, the teller signaled with her eyes that she needed help. That's when the trooper walked behind the man and arrested him.

The trooper said the man had just passed a note to the teller that read, "Give me all the money that's in the drawer. Don't be stupid, or I'll shoot."

The trooper arrested the man without incident. Police say they did not find a weapon on him.

Ocean Springs Police said the suspect's identity will be released as soon as possible. The trooper's identity is being withheld.
