GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) - Tommy Fortenberry's overwhelming victory in Gautier's republican mayoral primary was a surprise to many political watchers. Fortenberry defeated his opponent, Jeff Wilkinson, by a three to one margin in the republican primary.
Fortenberry gave up his job as a patrolman with the Gautier Police Department to run for office.
"I'm really humbled by it. And I promised the citizens of Gautier during my campaign that I would work hard for them as mayor, just like I was working during my campaign. And the people of Gautier, I believe, have spoken," Fortenberry told WLOX News.
Fortenberry faces independent candidate Edward C. Harding on June 2nd
