Honor our troops

Next month more than 3,000 Mississippi soldiers will be returning to Iraq. The men and women are members of the 155th Brigade Combat Team.

These soldiers are from across our state. They come from Tupelo, Biloxi, Columbia, Picayune and dozens of other cities and towns across Mississippi. They are your next door neighbor, your coworker, your sons' or daughters' coach. For many of these men and women this will be their second trip to Iraq.

Members of the 155th deployed to Iraq in January of 2005. Over the course of the year they were in Iraq, sixteen members of the 155th lost their lives defending our freedom. Their mission this year will be to provide security for troop movement. A mission that puts them daily in harms way.

As they get ready to deploy once again we all should be thankful for these men and women who are leaving family and jobs behind to help in the war effort. We also urge all local county and city governments to pass proclamations honoring these Mississippians for the sacrifices they are about to make for our country.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
